Happy New Year everyone. I hope 2014 brings you all that you wish for and more....

Now is that time of year when you get out the diary or wall calendar and start planning your next criminal adventure. This is not a exhaustive list by any means but more of a  little round up of dates that you should note:

February 1 and 2 at London’s Old Truman Brewery, Nordicana is the UK’s largest festival of Scandinavian culture. Tickets are £25 per day or £45 for the entire weekend. With the festival only a few weeks away, book now to avoid disappointment.

1 – 21 March Essex, UK
This year’s exciting line-up includes: best-selling novelist Joanna Trollope; Ann Widdecombe; Peter Snow, Rageh Omaar and Terry Waite. Find out How to Plot the Perfect Murder with expert crime writers Claire McGowan and Julia Crouch in a workshop encouraging you to break free with your crime writing.

8 March Winchester UK
Join crime authors Pauline Rowson and Natasha Cooper and crime experts Carolyn Lovell, Head of Operations, Crime Scene Investigations, Hampshire Police and Jane Aston, Hampshire Police Fingerprinting Bureau Supervisor for this panel debate crime fiction meets crime fact. Also present will be the Hampshire Police Fingerprint team.

15-18 May Bristol UK
CRIMEFEST is a convention for people who like to read an occasional crime novel as well as for die-hard fanatics. Drawing top crime novelists, readers, editors, publishers and reviewers from around the world, it gives all delegates the opportunity to celebrate the genre in a friendly, informal and inclusive atmosphere. Featured guest authors include Mark Billingham, Ben Aaronovitch, Jasper Fford, Nicci French, Lars Kepler and more.

8 – 12 July, New York City, USA        
Do you live for pulse-pounding adventure? When it comes to brand names, do you prefer Heckler & Koch to Dolce & Gabbana? When driving by self-storage units, do you envision dead bodies inside? If you answered yes to any of these questions, ThrillerFest is the place for you. Special guests this year include Scott Turow, Anne Rice, Brenda Novak and many, many others.

17 – 20 July Harrogate UK
Taking place over four-days each July, the Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival presents an accessible, challenging and entertaining long-weekend of live literature events, engaging 13,000 people each year in lively thought-provoking debates about the written word, the changing roles of writers and readers, and literature’s response to, and effect upon, wider society.  Special Guest: John Harvey other attendees: David Suchet, Gillian Flynn, Sophie Hannah, Lynda LaPlante, Laura Lippman and Peter May to mention but a few.

9 – 25 August Edinburgh, Scotland
Every August over 800 writers and thinkers from across the planet together to rub shoulders with the audience. Programme announced in June

19 – 21 September Stirling, Scotland
Leading Scottish and international writers flock to the historical Old Town to celebrate crime writing in its various forms, The eclectic programme includes author events, readings, Q&A's, pitching sessions for new writers and discussions about cutting-edge forensic technology, morality and the growing popularity of e-books. Details yet to be announced.

8th November, Portsmouth UK
Internationally acclaimed best-selling crime authors will be appearing at CSI Portsmouth 2014 on Saturday 8 November alongside police and forensic experts. Look out for more news on this exciting one day event in the next few months.

Bouchercon – Murder at the Beach
13 – 16 November Long Beach, California, USA
Bouchercon is the Annual World Mystery Convention, where every year readers, writers, publishers, editors, agents, booksellers and other lovers of crime fiction gather for a long weekend of education, entertainment, and fun. This year we have –Toast Master: Simon Wood, American Guest of Honor: J.A. Jance, International Guest of Honor: Edward Marston (that’s Keith Miles to you and me), YA Guest of Honor: Eoin Colfer.
