On Thursday 9 May 2018 The High Commission of Canada based at
Canada House in London hosted the book launch of Roxanne Bouchard’s book We are The Salt of The Earth which is
published by Orenda Books. It is the
first English translation of the novel. Her English translator David Warriner
was also present and gave a reading from the book.
Author Roxanne Bouchard was interviewed by journalist Kathy
Guest about We are The Salt of The Earth
with the topics ranging from the fishing community and the people there. How she did her research and the various
themes that could be found in the novel. Roxanne Bouchard also read from the
book in
French.
It was a brilliant launch with a vast number of people in
attendance. Not only were those in
attendance treated to an interesting conversation between the author and Katy
Guest but copies of the book were also given away to those who were there.
Congratulations to Orenda Books for having such a wonderful
book launch in such a special place.
We are The Salt of The
Earth by Roxanne Bouchard Published by Orenda Books (Translated by David

As Montrealer Catherine Day sets foot in a remote fishing
village and starts asking around about her birth mother, the body of a woman
dredges up in a fisherman's nets. Not just any woman, though: Marie Garant, an
elusive, nomadic sailor and unbridled beauty who once tied many a man's heart
in knots. Detective Sergeant Joaquin Morales, newly drafted to the area from
the suburbs of Montreal, barely has time to unpack his suitcase before he's
thrown into the deep end of the investigation. On Quebec's outlying Gaspe
Peninsula, the truth can be slippery, especially down on the fishermen's
wharves. Interviews drift into idle chit-chat, evidence floats off with the
tide and the truth lingers in murky waters. It's enough to make DS Morales
reach straight for a large whisky...
