Lindisfarne Prize 2023

 

Now going into its fifth year, the Lindisfarne Prize for Crime Fiction is a literary award for new, emerging and established writers who are from, or whose work celebrates the North East of England. Full Ts&Cs can be found on L J Ross's website under ‘Philanthropy & Prizes’, and entries open again in JANUARY, so get writing! To enter, you only need a short story of up to 10,000 words in the genre of crime or thriller fiction, or the first two chapters and a synopsis of a longer work in progress, so long as neither work has been published anywhere before.

Shortlist for 2022 Lindisfarne Prize for Crime Fiction Announced

 

Five authors have been nominated and the winner will receive a cash prize to support the completion of their work.

The shortlist for a prestigious North East literary prize has been announced. The Lindisfarne Prize for Crime Fiction celebrates outstanding crime and thriller storytelling of those who are from or whose work celebrates the North East of England. Five authors have been nominated for this year's prize which was won in 2021 by Whitley Bay writer and former pizza deliverer Robert Scragg with his novel Helix.

He is returning as a judge this year alongside Northumberland author and founder of the prize LJ Ross, crime writer Nicky Black, and Newcastle Noir crime fiction festival founder Dr Jacky Collins. The winner will be announced on August 31 and will receive a cash prize to support the completion of their work, alongside funding for membership of the Society of Authors and the Alliance of Independent Authors.

LJ Ross said: "It’s always a real privilege to read the Lindisfarne Prize shortlist, and each year to see how the North East of England continues to inspire such creativity. I admire anyone with the courage to write, so I applaud all this year’s entries, and congratulate those who’ve been shortlisted from amongst such an outstanding selection. I can hardly believe the Prize is now in its fourth year - I hope it can continue to inspire and support the arts in our region for many more years to come."

The Lindisfarne Prize for Crime Fiction (‘The Lindisfarne Prize’) is a literary prize which recognises outstanding writing in the genre of crime or thriller fiction, sponsored by the author L J Ross through her publishing imprint, Dark Skies Publishing, in association with the Newcastle Noir Crime Writing Festival and Newcastle Libraries. It is open to all writers who are from, or whose work celebrates the North East of England, and who have not previously had their submission published in any form (though they might have had other stories published before). To be considered, entrants must submit a short story of no more than ten thousand words or the first two chapters and a synopsis of their work in progress.

The winning entry will be awarded a prize of £2500 to support the completion of their work and funding towards a year’s membership of both the Society of Authors (SoA) and the Alliance of Independent Authors (ALLi), and smaller financial awards to shortlisted candidates. Entries are open from 31st October 2020 – 28th February 2021 and the winner will be announced during the Newcastle Noir Crime Writing Festival in May 2021.

The Lindisfarne Prize for Crime Fiction offers financial support but, more importantly, helps to build and maintain creative confidence for new, emerging and established writers in the genre.

 

 

 

 

The Lindisfarne Prize 2020

The Lindisfarne Prize for Debut Crime Fiction (‘The Lindisfarne Prize’) is a literary prize which recognises outstanding writing in the genre of crime or thriller fiction, sponsored by the author L J Ross and in association with the Newcastle Noir Crime Writing Festival. It is open to all new writers who are from, or whose work celebrates, the north of England and who have not previously had a crime or thriller story published in any form. 

Entrants must submit a short story of no more than ten thousand words or the first two chapters and a synopsis of their work in progress, to be considered.

The winning entry will be awarded a prize of £2500 to support the completion of their work, as well as free editorial and mentoring services from a local independent publisher and funding towards a year’s membership of industry associations. Entries are open from 31st May 2019 – 31st March 2020 and the winner will be announced at a ceremony forming part of the Newcastle Noir Crime Writing Festival in May 2020.
