Capital Crime announces Amazon Publishing New Voices Award

CAPITAL CRIME ANNOUNCES THE AMAZON PUBLISHING NEW VOICES AWARD, A COMPETITION INCLUDING A POTENTIAL
THOMAS & MERCER PUBLISHING DEAL

Writers of unpublished mystery, thriller, and crime fiction manuscripts are eligible to compete for a cash prize from Capital Crime and a potential offer of publication from Thomas & Mercer, the mystery and thriller imprint of Amazon Publishing.

5 May 2021 – Capital Crime, the UK’s leading year-round celebration for crime and thriller fiction, is pleased to announce that Amazon Publishing will sponsor the 2021 New Voices Award, open to unpublished mystery, thriller, and crime fiction manuscripts in English from writers around the world.

The winner of the Amazon Publishing New Voices Award will receive complimentary registration to the next Capital Crime Festival; a £1,000 cash prize; a trophy; and potential offer of publication from Thomas & Mercer, the mystery and thriller imprint of Amazon Publishing (terms & conditions apply).

Additionally, ten finalists will be considered for a potential offer of Thomas & Mercer publication, while also receiving day passes to the next Capital Crime Festival.

Amazon Publishing editor Victoria Haslam and Thomas & Mercer author Tariq Ashkanani, whose debut thriller Welcome to Cooper is forthcoming in October 2021, will serve alongside Capital Crime’s Advisory Board on the judging panel for the award.

Victoria Haslam says: “At Amazon Publishing, we’re particularly keen to see New Voices Award entries from underrepresented writers who’ll bring diverse perspectives to the mystery, crime, and thriller genre. I can’t wait to find new stories from around the world that our readers will love.”

To enter the Amazon Publishing New Voices Award writers must submit the first three chapters of an unpublished mystery, thriller, or crime fiction manuscript as a PDF, as well as an entry fee of £10, to Capital Crime’s submission portal. The closing date for entries will be 3rd August 2021. After entries have closed, there will be a voting period where members of the Capital Crime community (both Book Club members and Festival passholders) will be able to vote for their favourites online.

The ten most popular entries will form a shortlist to be announced in September 2021, after which the judges will select the winner to be announced in October 2021. Winners and finalists will also be celebrated at the next Capital Crime Festival in London.

Capital Crime co-founder David Headley says: “The Amazon Publishing New Voices Award is a brilliant opportunity for aspiring writers to raise awareness and receive recognition for their work.”

Capital Crime co-founder, screenwriter, and author Adam Hamdy says: “We’re excited to engage and support the next generation of talent. This is a fantastic opportunity for those looking to have their work represented and published.”

2019’s New Voices Award received almost 1,000 entries from around the world, with writers from countries including UK, the US, France, Sweden, Japan, Bangladesh, China, Brazil, Denmark, and Indonesia submitting their English-language crime fiction for consideration.
